History of the G-1 jacket
Becoming notorious after the famous Top Gun movie and worn in many scenes by the main character, Lt. Pete Mitchell Maverick (Tom Cruise) , the G-1 jacket (now promoted under the name Top Gun Jacket) is part of the standard equipment of the military pilots of the United States of America (U.S. Navy , Army Air Force, U.S. Air Force).
This jacket was introduced into the U.S. Air Force service in 1930, standardized in the U.S. Navy in 1940 and in the Army Air Force in 1943. The G-1 jacket was officially in service until 1988 but, even today, it enjoys great popularity among U.S. military aviation personnel, U.S. military regulations expressly permitting wearing the G-1 jacket together with the military uniform.
It was worn, on the ground and in combat, by U.S. military pilots during the Second World War, the Korean War , the Vietnam War, in various theaters of operations and missions. It is widely recognized that the G-1 jacket has gathered far more flying hours than any other aviation jacket.
The G-1 jacket was made during time, out of several types of leather (goat, cow, sheep) and in several versions, involving closed variations of colors , print/cut and storages/accommodation. Among all of those, the most distinguished/beautiful, functional , comfortable and desired is the Vietnam version (exactly the one in the Top Gun movie) and this is the one we decided to manufacture in Romania, out of the exceptional high quality Romanian genuine leather and fur. Our jacket is made from genuine young sheep leather, firm but with exceptional elasticity and durability.
